Tuna fishing has been epic since early June, with only a few dull moments in-between. Recently we’ve seen a fair amount of Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna from the Washington and Hot Dog with an increasing amount of Dolphin being brought back to the docks. The White Marlin bite is still fairly spotty, but we have heard of a few releases from the Washington.
All of this is certainly great news- and could lead to an amazing 2017 Tuna Tournament out of the Ocean City Fishing Center! This tournament kicks off next Friday on July 14th and will run until Sunday July 16th. The Ocean City Fishing Center is the tournaments main hub, however, Sunset Marina will also be serving as an alternate weigh station for stringer fish only. There have also been a few changes regarding the rules and levels of this tournament, as you will find below.
- Anglers can pass the rod with the exception of Junior and Lady anglers competing for those awards.
- Paid captains and mates cannot be anglers. They can hook and hand off.
- This year we are allowing only one Big Eye per boat to be weighed each fishing day. That fish can be added to stringer weight.
- We are extending the weigh-in times on Friday & Saturday to 8:30PM. Boats must reach the Junction Buoy by 8PM. They will then have 30 minutes to get the fish to the scale. No change in Sunday’s scale closing.
New Added Levels
We have altered the individual boat Added Levels to the following:
- Boats 35’ & Under
- Boats 36’ – 51’
- Boats 52’ & Up
We also added two new “On the Board Reward” levels as well as a Largest Bluefin Tuna Added Level.
This year the Added Level “Q” Charity Split will benefit the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Department.
As always, be sure to keep us in mind for all of your tackle needs. We have plenty of new items in stock including items from Sitka, C&H Lures, MoldCraft, ZMan, Ande, and much more! For details on the Ocean City Tuna Tournament or for registration information, please visit their website.
